What better time to launch a new ticketing platform than the week when the biggest established company is being hauled over the coals in a prominent antitrust court case?
While Live Nation and Ticketmaster do battle with the Department of Justice, startup Seatfun is officially launching its service – although it’s been in quieter operation for six months already.
The company describes itself as “a mobile-first, operator focused and revenue-optimised ticketing platform” with an app that its clients can use to create and manage events; sell and scan tickets; run loyalty and run marketing campaigns among other features.
Seatfun says that more than 100 event organisers have started using the app in the half-year running up to this official launch, adding that it has now “raised funding at a multi-million-dollar valuation” – specific figures unconfirmed – to continue growing.
The company’s pitch to venues and promoters is that they are being ill-served by existing rivals, particularly since Covid-19 up-ended price structures within the live market.
“What was once a more balanced risk model between buyers and agents shifted dramatically — leaving venues and organisers to shoulder the majority of the financial burden,” said COO Josh Misko.
