Yes, that’s Nature as in, well, nature – the natural world.
We reported in April on the initiative that credited Nature as a featured artist on streaming platforms, thus diverting some royalties from participating musicians to be donated to sustainability projects.
oday we have an update on how the initiative is going so far. There have been more than 65m streams in the six months since its launch. Now the first donations are being made: $225k of funding for conservation projects in Colombia.
That includes $100k to Reserva Natural La Planada, which operates in protected lands governed by indigenous communities; $80k to Fundación Projecto Titi, which protects reclaimed forest and cotton-top tamarin monkeys; $35k to FundaExpresion, which works with local farmer communities on self-declared nature reserves; and $10k to Jacana Jacana, a musical initiative to raise ecological awareness among children.
Alongside the donation news, Sounds Right, the UN initiative behind the overall project, revealed seven new Nature-crediting tracks from artists Lykke Li; Sam Lee; Ela Minus; AySay; Jenny Sturgeon, Alexis Taylor, Rachel Kitchlew and Alice Boyd; and Allen Anjeh and Louis VI.
