Ticketmaster is buying Quicket, one of the largest ticketing companies in Africa. Founded in South Africa in 2011, the latter company has since expanded to countries including Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Botswana, selling tickets for music concerts and festivals as well as sports and theatre events.
Ticketmaster did not disclose the price of the acquisition, but did say that Quicket will continue to be run as a standalone business unit in Cape Town, with its current managing director James Tagg remaining at the helm.
“Partnering with Quicket will supercharge our mission to elevate Africa’s dynamic live events to the global spotlight they truly deserve,” said Ticketmaster president James Yovich.
Meanwhile, Tagg described the deal as “a landmark moment in connecting African artists to a global audience and enhancing the experience for local fans and promoters alike”.
