If you spend too long on TikTok’s index page of videos using Chilean artist Easykid’s track ‘Shiny’ you’ll end up with a cricked neck. Why? Because many of them have been filmed in horizontal format and uploaded sideways.
According to TikTok, the track has been used in more than 11.3m creations so far in its various forms, often to accompany a meme that involves TikTokers’ (and one sea lion who didn’t get the horizontal memo) dancing while flirting with the camera. ‘Shiny’ is now riding its viral wave to other platforms including Spotify, where it has more than 70.5m streams since its release in June.
Other TikTok hits in the past week – other than the obligatory Taylor Swift wave – include US indie-pop band The MarÃas’ ‘Sienna’ and UK artist Olivia Dean’s ‘Man I Need’. The former has been in more than 2.4m creations generating 4.6bn views so far.
